Huglu Shotguns

Made in Turkey

Frequently-Asked Questions

Q: How do you say it?

A: “Hoo-loo” - (The “g” is silent.)

Q: Is Huglu a new brand? I’ve never heard of them.

A: That’s OK; many Turks have never heard of Remington or Winchester. Guns have been produced in the town of Huglu since 1914. In 1962 the craftsman reorganized as a cooperative and increased production. Today they make about 45,000 shotguns a year, many of them for other European labels.

Q: How is the quality?

A: Turkey is a modem industrial nation with a long tradition of manufacturing and craftsmanship. The Huglu factory uses state-of-the-art computer-controlled cutting machines (CNC). Both the receivers and the barrels start out as solid pieces of steel. The receivers are cut from C 1040, and the barrels from C 1060, treated to a hardness of 24HRC. The barrels are plated with hard white chrome, and are fully compatible with any commercial shotgun shell, including steel shot.

All engraving is hand-chiselled, and the stocks are of high-quality Turkish Walnut. Most of the wood is from trees over 200 years old, and is dried to 10% humidity before it is worked. (Turkey has been recognized for years as the source of the best stock blanks). Most important, from the buttplate to the bead, these guns are hand made and hand-fittted. New Huglus often feel a little tight, but always break in nicely, and will never feel loose.

Q: Why are the prices lower than those of comparable guns?

A: Several reasons: 1) the size of Huglu’s production creates good economies of scale. 2) we enjoy a very favorable exchange rate with the Turkish Lira; Turkey offers excellent prices on a wide variety of goods. 3) skilled craftsman are plentiful in Turkey 4) they own all the best wood 5) Huglu doesn’t charge as much as other gunmakers.

Q: What about the warranty?

A: All guns carry a two-year manufacturer’s warranty, and TRI warants them for an additional 3 years, covering all parts and labor. (You will find the details on your gun’s enclosed certificate.) For service, you may always return your gun to T R Imports, as well as to any of our affiliated dealers. If you require service within the warranty period, TRI will pay for return shipping.

Q: I already know about Huglu guns, and I want a Redhead, Canvasback Deluxe, etc. Why don’t you sell those?

A: We do. First, a little history. When Armsco (no longer in business) was importing Huglu shotguns, they added names to Huglu’s model numbering system. The 103D with black receiver became the Canvasback, the 103D with silver receiver became the Redhead, the 202B became the Bobwhite, etc. CZ, which has taken over Armsco’s inventory, has retained their naming system. Because the authority under which we import predates Armsco’s, we have always stuck to Huglu’s system, and we always will. To take one example, the Pintail and the 103F are the same gun. Furthermore, when you order a 103F from T.R. Imports, you are not limited to one stock; we offer the gun with round knob, standard flat semi-pistol grip, Monte Carlo or English stock. If it is important to you that your gun bear the word "Mallard" or "Bobwhite" or "Mudhen" or any other creature, we will be happy to engrave same on your gun before it ships.

Below is a cross-reference chart you may find useful. Note that Huglu makes, and TRI stocks, many models that have never been offered by Armsco or CZ, such as the very popular 103C, the 205A, the 210AE and 210BE (auto-eject side-by-sides) and others.
